Continuous Zipper Chain
Shop continuous zipper chain — also called zipper by the yard or zipper tape — cut to the exact length you need. Continuous zipper chain is unfinished zipper material: it arrives zipped, with no slider and no top or bottom stops. You add the slider and finish the ends yourself, which makes it the most flexible way to build closed-end zippers in hard-to-find lengths.
Zipper Shipper stocks zipper chain by the yard in nylon coil, molded plastic, metal (brass, antique brass, aluminum), invisible/concealed, metallic coil, water-resistant coil, and fire-retardant Nomex® styles. Gauges range from lightweight #2/#3 chain for pouches and garments to heavy-duty #8 and #10 chain for upholstery, marine canvas, tents, and industrial work.
How to order zipper chain
- Open the individual product page for the chain style you need (for example #5 nylon coil or #10 brass).
- Select the color first, then choose the number of yards. Yardage options are listed on that product page.
- Most continuous zipper chain is sold on a roll, with a minimum of 3 yards or 5 yards depending on the style. Individual single-yard cuts are not offered.
- Many styles discount at 10+ yards and 100+ yards. A full roll is typically 100 yards.
- Add a matching zipper slider (sold separately). Sliders must match both the gauge and the tooth type (coil, molded plastic, or metal).
- Create stopping points by sewing over the chain or by installing zipper top stops and bottom stops (also sold separately).
What zipper chain is — and is not
Continuous zipper chain is for closed-end applications only. You cannot make a separating jacket zipper from zipper chain, because chain has no pin-and-box. If you need a zipper that comes apart at the bottom, shop finished separating zippers instead.
Workrooms use zipper by the yard for upholstery, outdoor cushions, pillows, bags, bedding, and any project that needs a zipper longer than standard stock lengths. Matching sliders, stops, and wholesale pricing are available on most styles.
