As far as the type of zipper to use, there are several options. Leather jackets often sport metal zippers. They can either be luxury metal zippers or classic metal zippers.
Within the category of metal zippers, there is a choice of brass, antique brass, nickel, or aluminum. For a distressed look, you might consider an antique brass zipper, which has duller, "antiqued" zipper teeth, in contrast to shiny gold brass zipper teeth. Nickel zippers have silver colored zipper teeth and are super strong. Aluminum zippers also have a silver look, but are a lighter-weight metal. These kinds of zippers can be used on other leather items as well, such as purses, briefcases and chaps.
