How to Correctly Attach a Slider to Continuous Metal Zipper Chain

Did you know that there’s an up and down side on metal zipper chain?
When a zipper slider is properly attached to metal zipper chain, it should be able to easily glide across the chain in either direction. If you’re finding it difficult to move the slider one way and not the other, it’s highly likely that you’ve attached it upside down.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for how to properly attach a slider to continuous metal zipper chain.
- Identify the “up” side of the metal zipper chain
Open your zipper chain slightly at one end and closely examine the zipper teeth on the chain. You’ll notice that the teeth will slightly point upward on one side of the zipper chain.
If the end you opened has teeth pointing down, move on to step 2.
- Position the chain around so that the “down” side will be fed through the slider.
If the end you opened in step 1 was the “up” end, turn the zipper chain around and open the opposite end. Position your slider accordingly as demonstrated in the photo with the green check mark.
When attaching a slider to metal zipper chain, the “down” side of the chain is what’s fed through the throat of the zipper slider.
*Please note that this guide is intended for those attaching slider to continuous metal zipper chain. The process is different when attaching a slider to a jacket zipper.*
